A Dewey alternative for saving X posts

By Chiratna, founder of Zappmark · Updated

Zappmark is a cheaper, X-only alternative to Dewey. It saves a post when you hold Option (Alt on Windows) and click it, sorts it onto a shelf by itself, and finds it later by meaning, for $3 a month. Dewey costs $10 a month and does more today: it covers many more sites, exports to CSV, PDF and Notion, and saves full threads.

The short version

Pick Dewey if you save from LinkedIn, Bluesky, Threads or Reddit as well as X, or if you need your bookmarks in a spreadsheet or in Notion. Those are real strengths, and Zappmark doesn't match them yet.

Pick Zappmark if you save mostly from X (formerly Twitter), want to save without opening a menu, and want the sorting done for you. It costs less: free up to 50 saves; Pro $3 a month or $27 a year.

Where Dewey is better

Dewey is the more complete tool today, and it's fair to say so plainly.

  • More platforms. Dewey's home page lists X, Bluesky, LinkedIn, Threads, Truth Social, TikTok, Instagram, Reddit, Substack and general web bookmarks. Zappmark saves from X only for now.
  • Export. Dewey exports to CSV, searchable PDF and Google Sheets, with media, and syncs to Notion. Zappmark has no self-serve export yet.
  • Full threads. Dewey lists "Save Full Thread" on every plan. Zappmark stores the first post of a thread today, with a link to the rest on X.
  • Notes, folders and tags. Dewey's pricing page lists folders and tags on every plan, and its home page mentions searching your notes. Zappmark has shelves and labels, but no notes.
  • Importing what you already have. Dewey syncs the bookmarks you've already made on X. Zappmark only saves what you shoot from the day you install it.
  • A free plan with no save limit stated. Dewey's Free plan syncs by hand from one account. Zappmark's free plan holds 50 saves.

Where Zappmark is better

  • Price. Zappmark Pro is $3 a month, or $27 a year ($2.25 a month). Dewey Pro is $10 a month, or $7.50 a month billed yearly.
  • Saving in one move. Hold Option on a Mac (Alt on Windows), then click a post on X to save it. There's no bookmark button to find and no sync to wait for.
  • Sorting without setup. AI shelves: new saves are sorted onto shelves (such as Design or Engineering) for you, with no folders to set up. Dewey asks you to type a few interests, then its AI tags your bookmarks in bulk.
  • Search by meaning: search finds a save by what it said, not only by the exact words. Dewey's site describes fast search across bookmarks, tags, authors and notes, but doesn't say whether it matches meaning or only words.
  • More like this: open a save to see your other saves nearest in meaning to it.
  • Resurfacing. Zapback: once you have 5 or more saves, a weekly email on Mondays brings back 3 posts you saved and haven't opened since. Dewey's pages don't mention a resurfacing email.
  • AI assistants (Pro): connect Claude or ChatGPT to your library through MCP at https://zappmark.com/mcp. Access is read-only. Dewey lists an "AI Assistant" on every plan, but its pages don't say what it does.

How Zappmark does it

Install the Chrome extension and sign in with Google. On x.com, hold Option on a Mac (Alt on Windows), then click a post on X to save it. The post is saved to your library at zappmark.com.

Zappmark saves the post's text, author, time and link, a copy of its images and video, and any quoted post, link card or poll. Your saves stay in your library even if the original post is deleted.

The Zappmark library: saves sorted onto shelves such as Engineering, Startups and Design, with search at the top.

For a thread, Zappmark stores the first post today, with a link to the rest of the thread on X.

Moving from Dewey to Zappmark

There's no importer from Dewey yet, so moving is a fresh start. A sensible way to do it:

  1. Export your Dewey bookmarks to CSV or Google Sheets first, so nothing is lost. Dewey's pricing page lists export on every plan, and a $50 Export Pass for 48 hours.
  2. Install Zappmark and save new posts with Option or Alt and a click. They're sorted onto shelves as they arrive.
  3. Reshoot the old posts you still care about. Most people find a short list is enough.
  4. Once you have 5 saves, the Monday Zapback email starts bringing back posts you haven't opened since.

If you rely on LinkedIn or Bluesky saves, or on Notion sync, stay on Dewey for now. It saves from X only today. There's no self-serve export yet.
